A few minutes after Brendan Haywood blamed hubris, not lack of effort or execution, for the Wizards' underachievement, Gilbert Arenas said "hidden agendas" are causing the team to splinter and proclaimed that if the team continues to slide, he might have to rescue it before the season is lost.

First, it was the baseless report out of Sacramento that the New Orleans Hornets were shopping center Emeka Okafor. Now in today's Cleveland Plain Dealer, there's rampant speculation that the Hornets are willing to deal just about everyone but Chris Paul. According to high-level team sources, the Hornets won't be moving anyone anytime soon. The club is going to stick with this group to see what it can do. So any movement this far away from the February trading deadline is unexpected.

The return of Devin Harris from his groin injury gives this 0-13 team hope, but it likely starts the clock on Lawrence Frank's tenure as head coach. The Nets remain the NBA's only winless club -- four losses shy of tying the record for most consecutive defeats to start a season -- and Harris' return removes some of the convenient excuses and mitigating circumstances.

Now Knicks fans can blame Eddy Curry for something else. It seems the Knicks center, not Allen Iverson, is "The Answer." Knicks president Donnie Walsh announced yesterday the team had decided not to sign Iverson, the controversial 34-year-old guard, to a one-year contract. Walsh linked Curry's emergence in his season debut Wednesday against the Pacers (10 points and four rebounds in 11 minutes) with tipping the scales against signing Iverson. In saying the Knicks "rethought" their position on Iverson, Walsh ended a wild week full of flip-flops and fan frenzy favoring the move.
