Rumors of the impending arrival to Major League Soccer of former FC Barcelona and Real Madrid star Luis Figo picked up steam when Portuguese newspaper Correio da Manha reported the star midfielder has agreed to a two-year deal with AEG, the parent company to the Dynamo and Los Angeles Galaxy.

I'll believe it when I see it. I bet he goes back to Sporting.

I think it would be great, but I'll believe when I see it, just like Jazinho said.

is AEG similar to that MSI nonsense that Tevez and Mascherano were signed to?

January 4, 2008  09:12 AM ET

AEG owns I think four or 5 MLS teams. So basically if you are going to the MLS to play, you probably sign with AEG. I hate it personally. One owner, one team, and an owner shouldn't be able to have more than one team. It can really cause a lot of trouble, and wouldn't be good for the league at all. Hopefully the league decides to cut the nonsense out. It would just be better all the way around.

AEG owns 2 teams. Houston and LA. They used to own 4 teams back at the start of the MLS (and acquired a 5th when DC Holdings declared bankruptcy). But they have since sold the others (and, if you remember, the MLS forced AEG to sell United).

That said, the Figo rumors have been false. It's been dispelled stateside by Goff, Ives, and Sideline Views. And on the other side of the pond, Figo himself has said there's no truth. Houston Chronicle is just rehasing what's been in the British tabloids and Spanish gossip rags.

YET.

January 4, 2008  09:49 AM ET

He'll come over once he's done what he needs to at Inter (win his spot back on the pitch).

January 4, 2008  10:13 AM ET

He'll follow Rui Costa back to Lisboa.

January 4, 2008  10:14 AM ET

I refuse to believe that Figo would come over. I got to agree with Jazinho on this.

January 4, 2008  10:55 AM ET

I think he'd do well here, even for his age. I would want him to go to San Jose and have some great derbies with LA.

January 4, 2008  11:28 AM ET

I believe AEG owns 3 mls teams, LA houston and chicago.

Is the Soccer hater slowly coming around?

January 4, 2008  12:03 PM ET

if Figo went back to Sporting next year
and they can manage to keep Moutinho and Liedson
they can make a stronger run at the BWIN liga title

Wow, someone taught the feeb to type. For someone who hates the sport so much, he sure does like to keep tabs on the goings on of the REAL football.

That guy is funny as heck. Figo should not come to MLS. I think we should stop signing these old **** soccer players and pay our young stars better so they dont leave to europe to be bench warmers.
